I was wondering if anyone would be able to assist in the proper identification of the attached photo. They have it listed as a Lillians’s Lovebird. A friend translated it as Agapornis lilianae. I question that due to head color. Could anyone help me out with this? My Japanese isn’t that great, and a lot gets lost in translation so I came here to see if I could get a bit of assistance. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, it says lovebird. Botan Inko is lovebird.
Also says it's a boy.

That is definitely not a Lilian's lovebird (Agapornis lilianae). That bird is a black-cheeked lovebird (Agapornis nigrigenis).

The sign says ボタンインコ (botan inko) which translates to "lovebird", according to a Japanese dictionary that I trust.

The dictionary mentions that this word can especially reference Lilian's Lovebird, but in this case, I think it is being used as a general term for lovebird. The lovebird in the picture is an eye-ring lovebird, but the coloring is wrong for a Lilian's Lovebird. Could be a hybrid, but more likely it is just another species entirely, like a black-cheeked lovebird. They are quite common in the pet trade in the US, not sure about Japan..

Lilianae look similar to Fischeri and don´t have any black on the head.
Nigrigenis have the round black face with the orange underneath like your bird in the picture :)

Thanks guys! I was thinking Fischer’s due to “olive green” capped head. Or black cheeked.

Thanks! I knew it said Botan Inko and knew that translated into Lillians Lovebird, I just assumed Pet Forest misidentified it.
I live in Yokohama and am looking to acquire a pet bird here. ¥¥¥ quite pricy here in general for pets! I’m probably going to have to build my own cage.

Pets can be expensive here can’t they! Sorry I don’t know anything about lovebirds and all the sign says is lovebird anyway.
Do you know pet-home.jp? It’s an adoption site. I can’t see any lovebirds available at the moment but they’ve had them in the past.
You could also search for breeders? (ブリーダー). Being in Kanto, you have a higher chance of finding someone!

Yes! Pets are ridiculously expensive here! In addition to everything, and to my surprise & utter shock, I was gifted a pacific parrotlet today out of the blue. Thank heavens I have a house for her! Will post later.
