My little baby ringneck loves to be outside in the sun, he always has, but he refuses to go into the cage I use to get him outside!

It's currently 34 ish degree where I am in the UK and it is too nice to not have him outside.
I wish I could do it daily and give him baths in the sun.

If he refuses to go into his travel cage, how else can I get him into the sun?
I could potentially roll his cage across the room and have him sit in front of an open balcony door, but it's just not the same!

I tried targetting, using his fav treats, and whatnot. He's just so stubborn!

What about harness training?

That's definitely on my list of goals!

I'm slowly desensitizing him with everything in the house, he's still a little skittish. He seems to trust me, but we haven't fully bonded yet. I don't think he'll allow me near him with a harness anytime soon..

If you tell him time after time "go out side' them immediately put him in his travel cage and take him outside, it won't take long for him to be begging to get into his travel cage. You just have to be sure never to lie to him. Every time he gets put in the cage he gets to go outside.

The problem is, I cannot get him in the cage without using forceful methods.
I only take him out when he willingly goes into the travel cage, which he now stopped doing!
If I target him in he'll rush out immediately and if I try and put him in by hand he'll fly away before going in.
If only he realised how nice it is outside!

Have you tried putting some high-value treats in the cage to occupy him?

Well, that's what I meant when I said PUT him in the cage. Just grab him gently - don't hurt him - put him in the cage and take him outside while saying "go Outside". He'll forgive you - he's getting something he wants and likes.

My IRN is also not a huge fan of travel cages, however putting say my phone or any other object of his affection in the cage helped a lot when trying to get him used to it.

It is only warm here two to three months of the year, so we put the travel cage on the paper towel covered window seat, and she enjoys sitting there and watching the birds outside, without actually going outside. :budgie2:
