I think the molting has begun!

First of all, my bird room looks like a blizzard has come through - and that is with the air purifier running 24/7 at full blast.

Dust Storm Isadora is in full effect.

But this morning, feathers are just... Falling out. Everywhere. Holy crap. I now know why people say they freaked out when it happened because my initial reaction was AHHHHHHH CALL THE VET WHAT IS HAPPENING SHE'S GOING BALD SOMEONE HELP.

So yeah, this is fun. How long does this last?

My birds sync up, I think they conspire to do it that way... when one finishes another starts. So Gis just came out of a moult and Adelie has started hers. It´s never ending over here!

It depends. Simon has been on an almost continual molt since arriving here several years ago.

In my experience, the blizzard lasts a few days. Then, they look like scraggly old socks filled with porcupine quills for another week or so. Your sweet 'Dora will need extra nutrition while she molts, and she may be extra cranky on top of perhaps being hormonal.

So, yeah...there's that.

She’s particularly crabby this week anyway - my daughter is visiting for a few days and my son has been home sick with whatever the latest illness has been spreading through daycare - So her “just us” time has been infringed upon and she’s big mad about it.
