I need urgent help

Hi everyone I'm new here. I have a 28 year old goffins cockatoo whose weight has always been from 236 - 244 grams. But since about 3 days ago he stopped eating.
I used to feed him Lafeber and would add some Harrison pellets to it also fruits and lately some mashed sweet potato with quinoa broccoli and vegetables. But from 3 days ago he just has stopped eating. He still active and plays and comes to me but he's been eating very little and honestly I don't have the money to take him to the vet right now. If anyone can help me and let me know what I can do to open up his appetite please let me know. He's very picky at eating he doesn't need peppers or all the vegetables or even the fruits I give him his favorites but he's not eating and he has dropped to 223 and tonight he ate very very little somebody please help

I'd say at this point anything that wont kill him that might entice him to eat is a good thing. You might also want to try baby bird formula or something similar that tastes really good and see if he'll eat that way. When my Blue headed Conure was at the end of her life I was feeding her whatever her favorite fruits and treats were and putting some of it in a dropper so I could gently get it into her mouth. Once she perked up she came out of it and started eating a bit on her own and was OK for a few more weeks till her age finally caught up to her.
I think others with more experience and good ideas will jump in to help but I hope this gives you some ideas to get him going again till he feels better.

Hi Juan, I'm sure you already know if he's not eating there is an issue. I'm glad you are keeping track of his weight and have a record of his weight history to go on. Truly, I would call his vet, explain the situation to them and ask if they can set up a payment plan. You know your birds history and we don't. Is there a possibility he could have ingested something that could cause this - a food that may have gone bad, chew on his cage, something environmental in your home.... there are too many questions to ask. I would want to start with an X-ray and some lab work with a vet so you have no regrets. Sorry this is happening with your goffin.

I agree that you should try working with your vet for a payment plan. So sorry that you are going thru this, wishing you good luck with the call to the vet!

As some others have said, anything that he'll eat right now is a good thing. I'm having similar issues with my 40+yo disabled U2.
If you cannot afford to take him to the vet, look around for resources in your area, the bird community is a strong one! Knowing your location, some members may be able to point you in the right direction. There are many rescues, shops, and Facebook groups that may be able to help you. Many vets can also work with you on payment plans, budget, and even low cost vet visits! Look into it! There are also financing options for Vet-specific credit cards that have helped me out in a pinch! I hope that he feels better soon!
