tonight, my hedgehog Ember almost went into hibernation. I noticed that he hadn't ate or drank and he was cold to the touch. After more investigating, i noticed he was hardly breathing, his eyes were closed, and he was shaking. for a hedgehog his age (turning 5 years in a two months), I thought that he was going to pass away. Fortunately, after giving him some heat, he was able to start eating softened food. It took about an hour for him to get back to his usual self. He ate a full bowl of food, drank some water, started moving around, and overall seemed more aware of his surroundings. I'm so glad that he is ok, but he really scared me :(

yes, but it is super dangerous for captive hedgehogs to hibernate because they can’t regulate their body temperature and don’t have enough fat. if a captive hedgehog hibernates, it will die shortly after.
