What do you mean by 'anting'?
She sticks bits of just about anything and everything in those feathers of hers, just like some wild birds do with real ants.

@fashionfobie described it pretty well :)
I don't think it is firmly understood why some birds practice anting. One hypothesis is that it may help with parasite removal, and the birds are allowing the ants to climb under their feathers for help rid them of pest.

I don't believe little Bug is really practicing anting, she is likely presenting a combo of playful and nesting behaviours. Goffin commonly play on their backs :) The native corellas in my area even wrestle!
I still call it anting because her motions look exactly like that to me & she doesn't do anything else that could be considered nesty. Either way, it's definitely playful!

Thankfully it's old and we would like to replace it. But not until we can get her to stop picking at this one! :bored:

I thought goffins were only in Indonesia. How neat that y'all have them, too! :) Australia has so many neat birds!

Just searched it up, they're not goffins here, apparently theyre "Little Corellas" and "Western Corellas"! I've also seed a few Long-Billed Corellas the other day :D

They're so pretty!! Does your macaw do OK with the 2s in the house? I only recently learned it can be an issue, I had no idea.

The macaw boys are in the sunroom on one end of the house, the goffins girls day cages are in the middle of the house & we run 2 air purifiers. So far so good.

Many of the corellas in Australia are bare-eyed, unlike the Indonesian variety. What they call Goffin in the US are not native to Australia, they are from the Tanimbar archipelago. :geek:

Don't worry, I can't either. View attachment 432196 It's possible anting may not be for us.
I can (put leg over head) but somehow I have a lot of joint injury. I wonder how that happened.

i would not enjoy anting but at least I’m not madly allergic to them.
These cockatoos are beautiful. So fluffy—they kind of remind me of feathery cats just like owls remind me of feathery cats.
