I Adopted a...

...Cat! I adopted him on Sunday. I named him Pumpkin Graham. (I always give my pets middle names). Anyway, he's only a year and a half. He's super sweet. As you can imagine, Emery and him are kept separate. She can be in her cage at dinner with him in there or if I'm in the room and she's taking a nap, but when she's out, he's either closed in the bedroom, or out in the rest of the home.

Bodie and Pumpkin are getting used to each other so quickly. Pumpkin hadn't been around dogs before. Initially, he was yowling a lot at Bodie, and he was so scared of him that his fur was standing up. They're almost friends now though. This took place over three days: I started out just letting them smell each other through the door. Then, I put a window screen in the doorway so they could see each other, but still be separated. After that, I put Bodie on a leash and let them be in the same room together. Now, they're already sleeping on the same bed. Because there are neighborhood cats, I've been working on training Bodie to be gentle and nice to kitties. He loves cats, so he's still had a few moments where he will get overexcited and bark, or try to play with his toy with Pumpkin, but overall he has done so well. I think my heart melted when I saw them like this yesterday.

Thank you! Bodie is a rescue, but he definitely has West Highland Terrier and Shih Tzu. He might have more breeds mixed in too.
