It is true you just never know what the bird is going to do until you put them in that situation. All of my tiels eventually paired off with a partner of the opposite sex and enjoyed hanging out. Of the 12 tiels, only three continued wanting human interaction on a regular basis, and all three of these tiels had been handfed babies. The other nine were parent raised but human socialized from day three of their lives. I have had loving cocks and I have had loving hens. Again, it is all in the individual bird's character and outlook. I have had far more affectionate and loving female tiels than males.
