His vet put him on baytril for 7 days. His weight has dropped again. She said it's common to get secondary infection with diabetes.

Yes, almost any illness or disease is an invitation to opportunistic infections. Their immune system is compromised and therefore provides a bacteria or fungus to thrive. You just need to watch a bird with a chronic disease very closely.

I suggest you have anyone going near him wear a mask to help protect him from the Covid virus since we know that animals are subject to get it from humans.

Yes he's improving. He's a tough little guy (girl really). He was yelling at my daughter to "Get in here now." Alittle while ago.

Howard goes to his doctor Tuesday the 23. Somedays he struggles to stay awake and his weight is dropping again. It's frustrating knowing that diabetes in parrots is very hard to treat, so many unknowns.

But he's being loved.

Secret seems to have lost a few grams too. I wonder if it's the season?

I've started giving her almond slivers. The stinker won't eat her morning meds now until a almond sliver is broken into pieces in the quinoa that holds the meds

Yes, it funny how they demand that extra fat that they love in those medication treats! I get honking if I leave out or forget the eye drop treats. (Like if the phone rings) I've found that just ignoring the phone until sunflower seeds are hand pez'ed into Buddy's mouth, is the resolve to all that insanity.

What is it like for diabetes in a bird? It must be so tough to even know where Howard's sugar levels are (assuming here), vrs. a Dog or Cat you can't even know w/out the vet being involved? With a cat you can test @ home if you're so inclined, & IF I remember a dog also, but.... A bird, I highly doubt anyone other than a vet or vet tech could do it.

Can you tell us a little bit about it? & Pls keep us updated on Howards vet visit.
