I just got home a short while ago to find Lapis and Nubes 30cm Y perch hanging down, upon closer inspection, one of the cage bars is broken!
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I'm really hecked off. I have emailed the online store I got the cage from exactly one year ago.

I am not at all sure if this will work practically but in theory you could bend the bar straight and then use a soldering iron and bird safe wire and Solder to extend the bar which you can the wrap around the existing bars (other side) and then cut excess wire and melt ends together with the soldering iron and solder.

Solder is very weak, I can´t imagine it holding. Plus I´m not sure that is safe.
I´m going to buy some new washers tomorrow to lessen the pressure, because my cement pedi perch that weighs a ton, is fine, but the Y perches that are light, weigh the bars down.

JBWeld, liquid glue for metal. But if used, be very careful, the odor would be bad until it dried and any overflow that can be pecked would have to be sanded off. I've had good luck keeping other metal parts together with it. World's Strongest Bond
Thanks, I´ll check that out! :)

Two fender washers, a bolt, and a wingnut? Basically like you are attaching a perch, just minus the perch.

Otherwise a perch or hunk of wood haha

This is my temp fix  I was scared of one of the little ones getting hooked during the night.
I might leave this as is, and put a large toy over the top as Sarah suggested as well :)

My U2 has broken a few bars on her California cage over the years. We use the large acrylic washers on the inside, a metal washer on the outside, a bolt & wing nut.

You could do what I have done for those breeder doors...piece of plexi across it and shawna's nut and washer idea to hold it.

Can you not just get it welded up ?
Mobile welder, can you move the cage outside or even take it somewhere to be fixed, not sure where you are but a stainless tig weld would be safe I would assume.

My greenwing has had episodes of bar breaking.
I have a mobile welder on speed dial.
Just make sure they use safe welds.
With such a new cage, I'd want it fixed correctly.

Yea, Thanks guys, I will definitely learn some new words and find someone to do it for me once I´m confident I can speak right :) I wouldn´t want it messed up for my own error.

I’m guessing that it’s a mild steel cage and then powder coated ?

I would say you want this TIG welded as it’s a cleaner weld but any repair/welding is going to affect the powder coating, so you prob still need to cover it from your birds.

stainless TIG welding should be fine or certainly better and I expect slightly safer end result depending if it can be done on the material the cage is made from.

It really is only a few minutes work for a half decent welder, over here they would charge £5-£10 if you took the cage to them, not sure on a home visit.

Yes it is an Avillon powder coated Montana cage (Kings/HQ). Thanks for the info! :)

I never did add a pic on here to update, so here's a few pictures, just incase someone is looking for ideas and reading this old thread,

The screw and wing nut are from the holders for the bowls that came with this cage (and I don't use them all) so I know they are safe :)

Great idea!
If i ever get the chance to have it welded or meet someone who could do it for me, I will. But for now, this works a charm :)
