Did use the F10 yesterday, at first she hated but she was breathing better after that. Today she can't stop playing with the toys, her friends, me... bless her! Unfortunately we couldn't find out if it's Asper or infection or the enlarged liver. She is putting on 2-3 grams of weight a day, which is good as she had lost 10+ grams and the vet was worried it was due to the liver and not simply due to her not eating. I will try again today to use f10, the vet she doesn't really need the oxygen unless she shows clear signs of labor breathing etc. We are getting there, two days left to go to the avian for the 2nd opinion, still talking with the specialist. He was really brilliant in finding out a lot of the things that go wrong and looks into preventative measures. He talked about milk thirstle after her meds finish. So, I am taking her to the avian and back to the exotics specialist at some point so he tells us how to support her...It was so nice suddenly seeing her again like she has always been. It wouldn't be a problem giving her a mist shower is it? Tried to clean the food from her plumage but nothing. i avoided the shower cause she had food on her nostrils, but now it's gone, will it help remove the dried food? What else can I use? I use sterile saline eye wash with cotton wool when I clean her myself. Thanks

I'm so glad that the F10 seemed to help her breathe. I may be crazy, but my girl gets two hours of oxygen every day (no F10) under the assumption that it helps her heart and other damaged organs. She has sever atherosclerosis and her circulation is very bad, so I feel that a couple of hours of adequate O2 every day helps her organs work properly. My vet has told me more than once that you can't hurt an animal by giving them O2.

Hello,

Hope everyone is doing well. Just an update. She was on the above mentioned meds from the vet BUT Nana said the dose was too much and was "crying". She is weird, she makes the sound nestlings make when she is not happy. SO, I didn't give the whole dose the vet recommended, after all she was going to another vet within a few days. I did try F10 but stopped working after 3 days so I switched to Sablutamol... again on my own... However, this was a med that was prescribed to her by her avian some time ago, again to be used as required if I see any respiratory distress but I was not 100% sure if it had expired. I checked it, but on Saturday her breathing suddenly got worst and Sablutamol was going to be given as a nebulising solution so I took the risk. It worked perfectly! When visited her avian, he said that she was overdosed by the other vet, so it's amazing that I actually listened to her and reduced the dose. Who knows what could have happened if I had just pushed the meds in! Plus, he said I did well giving the Sablutamol and since its consistency was checked and was fine, I was asked to keep on using it for a week.
I was scared telling to the avian what initiatives I had taken but luckily all were correct. Luckily I knew the med that was overdose because I had given it to my cat last year. So I was like... this can't be right, she can't have the same dose as a cat that weights 4-5 kg... but have to admit that I first reduced the does because Nana said so and then I checked. Nana had always taken her meds when ill, that was the first time she complained so I trusted her. it was a calculated risk though, we just reduced.
I love that Nana can actually show us what she thinks. She is always right! She had her implant done, her blood samples taken for biochemistry tests and is on meds for both lung infections because of bacteria and asper even though the meds for the first are working fine. Coming wed will have the results back.
The avian said that she is at a good weight, he had nothing to comment on the lipoma but he did say that it was my fault I forgot to update the implant. :( I have 30+ parrots and thought she had hers done in August but she had it in Feb. Now I keep a record even though her implant will last for a year.
He said there is nothing more that I can do however, we give meds to treat the lungs and for the fatty liver we can either give milk thirstle or something else by mouth that is eve better... I can't recall the name. Will look into it within a week or two as she is taking a liver protector med now.
I made a mistake I even thought that when we say that implants last for 6 months it wouldn't matter if it was a bit over... but it does... so I was now running to do implants for all my oldies... :( The avian did not seem worried though like the specialist. He said we just work on it, she in a very good state. But she still has PTSD from staying at the hospital.
She did have another anaesthesia to do the implant and blood but the vet said that in birds the drug doesn't accumulate as it is not injected so the risk doesn't increase.
I feel relieved ad at the same time scared how to look after a bird with a fatty liver disease. My other tiel Nachu also has it, she is also very old and worst thing she put on weight :( . Her implant helps her a lot as she has liver issues mainly due to her hormones. So we need to work on it. I guess I can find information here about supporting these birds?
Thanks
