How high to place the cage?

Hello, I am thinking to buy a canary and I don't know how high should I place the cage.
Should the cage be at our head levels? Can the cage be lower, at our chest level?
I do not want to scare the bird each time I pass by his cage.

I find that above the waist level and up is ok.

My canary is fine with the top of the cage being about eye-level, so around 5 ft.
