Thank goodness he’s ok! Opie’s bald spots might be from old age or any of the reasons listed above.
He’s molting, too. So I’m guessing it’s the same.

Just be glad it will (hopefully) be over soon. Frankie has been a pin head for weeks now.

Some budgies moults are quite severe but I don't think I've ever seen one needing medical intervention. Pin feathers look painful and generally they can be itchy and uncomfortable but are not really painful. A bath or spritz is helpful. Beyond that, time and patience..lol.
