Just wanted to share some pictures of our DIY toys.

A while back, I made a Jolly Ball, but now I've added a atom to orbit around it. I made it from hula hoops wrapped with jute rope. It makes the Jolly Ball so much more accessable for playing with everything both inside and out. You can't really tell how big it is from the picture, but the atom measures 20" wide.

These are great! I've been searching for something to make my own orbit from. I only have Keets though, so I don't think I'll be needing one that is 20" wide! lol You've done a great job!

If you use hula hoops, I found out you can cut them to the size you need. Just remove the colorful ribbon trim and each hula hoop will have one join. Find the join and pull it open, you may have to cut or remove some tape on the join. Inside there is a connector, that slides into each end of the hoop to keep it closed. Just cut the hoop to whatever size you want and push the ends back on the connector. I put some tape over the join, just to be safe... then wrap with your rope.

I spent a lot of time searching for the smallest hula hoops. I didn't know you could take them apart and cut them to make them the size you wanted. I got them at Dollar Tree by the way, and they were very small hula hoops, but I cut them anyway to make them the exact size I wanted.

Kylee, I've also read that you can use embroidery hoops to make a smaller atom. So this may be better if you want an atom that is maybe 8, 10 or 12" wide. I have smaller one that I bought, called an Orbiter, that's about 8" wide. It's hanging inside my Senegal's cage and he swings on it all the time. He loves it.
Keep us posted if you make one for your Keets. Your babies are so adorable!!!

Very, very cool Lisa. Those are what I call winter projects :) for those cold "in front of the TV" days and evenings :)

LOVE the hula hoop orbit. Had no clue you could resize it. I will be making one for sure, maybe with poly rope, different colors.....hmmmmmmm

You ROCK!!!! Thanks for the inspiration :hug8:
