Urgent Homecare for injured foot

Hi all!

My little Greencheek has had a rough couple of days and has received a pretty severe toe injury. I took him to the local vet when the injury first occurred, but they aren't avian specialists. They advised me to take him home and keep an eye on him, and take him to an avian vet hospital if things got worse.
While he's been getting progressively brighter and chirpier, he's now unfortunately lost the nail and is chewing on the toe. I suspect he's got a bit of infection as the foot is warm and a bit swollen. To make matters worse, there's been a severe flood and we won't be able to reach an avian vet at least until next week.
I'm going to put him on an antibiotic treatment (vetafarm triple C, I'm not sure I can get anything else at the moment), but is there anything else I can do? Especially to stop the chewing, it'd be great if I could get some advice on how to bandage the wound or something similar.

Cheers!

I don’t think I’d be comfortable giving antibiotics without knowing for sure that they’re the right ones.
I’d personally be more inclined to keep the wound and environment very clean and get advice from a vet.

Any chance your local avian vet will do a consult via zoom?

If you need help finding a good veterinarian, you could give us a general geographic area where you live (country and state/province) and someone may be able to help you.

We're in the North-West of Greater Sydney (NSW, Australia). There's a specialist that would normally be less than an hour away, but unfortunately our area is cut off by flooding at the moment so we can't get there.
I'm going to take him back to the vet we can actually reach this arvo (though there aren't any avian specialists there) and see if they can help me dress the wound. I'll hold off on the antibiotics then too, and if our vet can't help prescribe anything, I'll try get a video consultation with a vet from the city, thanks for that advice!
Is it safe to make a collar or something to stop him from chewing the toe?

He's eating and drinking well so I'm hoping for the best, thanks!

Update!
There was a different vet at the clinic yesterday who was a bit more confident with birds which was great! Diego's now got some medications and I'm feeling more optimistic.

The only issue is that he needs a collar to stop him chewing his foot until it heals. The clinic is out of the really light ones and won't be able to get them in until the bridges reemerge. The vet got a slightly larger one and cut it down to size but we were both concerned that the thick plastic may be a bit heavy. I might try and make one from a thinner plastic so he can feel a bit more comfortable.

A final update ☺

Diego had a collar for a week ( I ended up making him a lighter one since the one the vet had was too heavy) and was on a course of meds for about ten days. The night before last, the final bit of necrotic flesh that was worrying me fell away and he's got healthy pink skin underneath
He's a little tender and half a toe lighter, but otherwise seems to be feeling great and is back to his usual plucky attitude.

Here he is last week, just after the collar came off getting a well-deserved scritch!

Thanks for all your advice!
