Thanks Saroj! Yes, they are the only bird I know that does this, except maybe something like ptarmigans that change color for the season. Male Red Legged Honeycreepers begin to molt. They lose all the blue and turquoise feathers, and change their color to a mottled black and emerald green. As they start to change back, blue dots them..like you see in him now. Then they become blue again, for the remainder of the year.
