Our first pair of greater Vasa'a came to us on 2/3/13. They were owned by our local Manager Mark of our wonderful pet store Bird Fever who had them a couple of years. They were on display in his pet shop but were not for sale. After a few visits and a closer look - my wife Dianna fell in love with Moses. Moses is 6 and was originally a pet. Eva is 9, and was not named at the time, and had always been a non-pet or breeder. Although they have been together at least 3 years prior - no babies were ever born. Mark loved his Vasa's alot and felt the pet store environment was not the best for them and was thinking about getting them to friends or relatives in Florida for a better life (we did not know that at the time). Since Dianna had such a positive reaction to Moses we decided to make an offer for the pair. We came up with a number, and without thinking we had any chance of getting them set-up, a meeting with Mark. He listened to our proposal, especially to dedicate an entire room to them for freedom to fly and exercise, told us his story that he wanted a better life for them, thought about it more, so we asked him what would it take money-wise. We had done some research and again had a figure in our minds. He then gave us a price which was under what we discussed and we took the deal. That was Saturday, 2/2/13. We arrived the next day, had them clip nails, and had them on their way home in the store provided carrier.

We had built them a double Ferret Nation stacked cage but really had all intentions of keeping the cage doors open. Both of their first flights were shaky at best as they got used to being able to roam a bit - but our library was not that big - it was the best we could do. We visited them often but to learn without interacting much the first 2 weeks or so. We were curious about them and them about us. Moses starting falling in love with Dianna and Eva just kind of watched it all un-fold. Dianna did some research through the internet and books on training and decided it was time to bond, teach, and learn with and from our Greater Vasa's.........To Be Continued.

Probably the next few paragraphs will be written by Dianna - Lady Vasavere since she took over most of our Vasa training and interaction at this point.

Until then - AA nation have a great day! These are pics of Moses and Eva's final moments at the Pet Store! Her head was bald but she never turned yellow and they never did the deed this season.
