Hello bird lovers... I got my first parrot on Wednesday, December 6th during the afternoon. I was super excited because I had planned to get my mum a talking parrot for her birthday, which is on the 24th (xmas eve). I pondered upon an Amazon or an African Grey; however, I knew that would be a serious commitment and would be over my budget. On Wednesday I went with a friend to Los Angeles and that is the day I spontaneously got a 3-month-old Sun Conure. Today marks the 4th day. Mum and I have so much to learn. It is such a beauty. So yeahhh I am happy to be here on Avian Avenue :)

Welcome to AA. Congrats on getting your conure. Did you name him/her Polly as per your avatar? Post some photos when you get a chance.

:welave: We love having new members! :greet7: Sun conures can be quite noisy and are easily spoiled when they are babies. Is he or she hand tame already?

Thank you all :) I tried uploading a picture of it, but it seems like that the image size is too big. I will try to use an app to resize it.

Polly is actually being very noisy. I know it is not a good idea to get it out of the cage when it is screeching, but it's only quiet when it is eating.

Hello and welcome! :) I have a peach fronted conure whom can also be noisy when the mood strikes:) I started whistling a certain tune when I left the room, or approached the cage and she picked it up. She will " whistle" for me and I will whistle back. There are many knowledgable people here that will be able to give you good advice! Please don't make the mistake of giving Polly more attention then you are able to give in the future. Establish a routine so that Polly knows there is a time she gets to come out and visit, but also learn to entertain herself. Do you have a play stand where she could hang out to be near you? That has been a great help for me when I need to finish a task, yet Clemmy can still be nearby, and feels that she can supervis the job;)
Wishing you many happy years with Polly, they truly are amazing creatures! :)

Thank you for your tips. I spent a few hours last night reading about sun conures. I do not have a stand yet, but I will get one asap. That sounds like a good idea. I got it a couple toys yesterday, though it seems disinterested and has not paid attention to them. I hope Polly starts to be more active.

Can you guys please check this video of Polly. It chirps loudly constantly and flaps/twitches its wing. I have seen baby birds do this, but I have also seen baby birds not do this. I am planning to take it to the vet for a general exam; however, I called today to the best nearest one to make an appointment and they are closed :/

Be careful what you wish for;) conures are very active. I watched the video and Polly is adorable! I am not an expert, and a vet exam is always a good idea to rule out any health issues:) wishing you all the best on this grand adventure! :)

Nice to meet you and welcome to the best place in the world (IMHO) to speak parrots or birds! I absolutely love your bird!! I saw one recently on a harness and she was such a princess!! Her parents were all over her treating her like a queen and she was so tiny compared to her fathers! They were huge bikers with tattoos and the little princess was too adorable riding on their Harleys! They were at the pet store getting her nails trimmed. I was cracking up because these two huge scary looking guys were so worried about their Princess. I loved it!
