I've been running a personal project to benchmark various browsers on different operating systems and one of the things I noticed which is skewing my results is high CPU use when I have AA open in an active browser session.

The solution for my testing purposes of course is to close AA, but I wanted to mention it in general since the site is acting rather piggish on resources even when it's not the focused window and in use.

I suspect it's the animated advertising banners.

Interesting...I have 24 tabs open with chrome (I am a tab junky  ) and it's only using 4.5% of my CPU:hmmm:

I should point out that 54.7% in that screenshot is a little more than half of one core (see bar graphs at the top), so I'm not saying it's using half of my overall CPU.

htop would report the use of a full core as 100%, use of two cores would be 200%, etc.

It's definitely the banners -- blocking AA from being able to run Javascript fixes the high CPU use.

Not that I'm suggesting people should block ads on AA, I'm all for the site having them, but it would be nicer if they were lightweight static images that don't consume resources once loaded.
