Welcome aboard. I'm so glad you want to adopt a bird instead of buying from a pet store or getting a baby from a breeder. That's all we usually hear from new members. It's so refreshing to me personally. For that reason alone I am glad to support you.
I will offer you some sound advice as someone who has never owned a bird. It's great that you are doing research but you can read and research until your eyes fall out. None of that will give you what you need which is exposure to actual birds. Go and volunteer at a bird rescue (they can always use the help). Get your hands dirty and get some in your face experience. This will show you the reality of owning and looking after a parrot. (We all have a "vision" of parrot ownership. Reality is much different)
By volunteering at a rescue you will be exposing yourself to many and different kinds of birds. There will be a special bird in that "picks you". That is the bird you will have the greatest connection with and the most successful relationship with.
Volunteering at a rescue also lets the rescuers get to know you and really shows your commitment to a bird. You will get guidance and valuable insight from them and that special bird. I wish you luck.
