How can I help this bird? We're in the park. It's all alone. I'll make a video if it helps.
Should I take him home?

He's just here next to a duckling..
I'm leaving the duckling be.

I'm going to take him home. I don't feel he would be safe here. I will return him once he's a little older

OK. We're home. He's sleeping. I just told my partner

I'm making a bed from a box.
What next?
I'm not sure how old he is.... Maybe a day? Or two...

His feet look like chicken feet. So i think he´s a chicken. I don´t know why he was there next to the duckling. Maybe a kid took him from his nest and they just left him there because he was on a plastic bag :(

This park has chickens, guinea pigs, peacocks, swans and quakers roaming the park. And there was lots of chicks today, so impossible to find the nest or mum.

So.. I was with my 2yo nephew, and I was showing him the duckling in the park near the pond. We fed him and was gentle with him and guided him back to the duck pond and thanked him and said goodbye.
I sat back on a bench with my mum and my nephew was playing on the grass and I saw some kids arguing with their guardian. The teenage boy took off and headed for the pond. I had eyes on him because I knew the ducklings were there. I saw him pick up the duckling but he put him back down where he was sat. then I saw him touch something on the rocks. Looked like he was stroking it. I was thinking, hmmm, I saw something on the rocks, looked like a bit of food or ice cream or rubbish... so maybe it was a turtle. I waited for him to go and I went down to have a look and saw the little chick there.
My mum said that when I walked away with the chick, the boy came back to look for it on the rocks.

I have a hot water bottle under the blanket for him. Plus it's warm here today.
But he seems a little unresponsive... I know he's small, but I would think they would wriggle a little or something...
Does he need food?
I don't know how long he was on that stone. He didn't go there by himself, someone (human) put him on that stone. :(

If it's a chicken, chicks are usually walking around eating when they hatch. The mothers don't feed them to my knowledge.

Zara, it appears to be a chicken. What you should try is if you have access to get chick food, it's usually small crumbles. Soak it till mush and try feeding it. Might have to use syringe. I say this because, it should be up and walking around pecking things for food.
We have one chick hatched from a dozen eggs.
And it follows the hem around. About a week old now.
The one you have is not well. And may be why it's abandoned. Unless you get food And water down real soon, it's not going to make it.

Bad news guys. He didn´t make it.

I managed to get water in him, and I had tried with crumbled bread, but he was already so weak.

My boyfriend has taken him to bury him in the community garden.

Poor little guy :(

@Hawk12237 thankyou for trying to help us ❤

This is what I thought. I feed all the chicks in the park and they eat themselves. The hens just protect them from other cocks and the quakers.

I’m so sorry he didn’t make it. If he wasn’t eating in his own he was already very ill when you found him unfortunately. I have a lot of experience with chicks (I have a small farm and chicks are almost a constant here) and sometimes they suffer from a general failure to thrive. Could be this chick was taken from somewhere where the warmth was to be played with by someone or it just wasn’t strong upon hatching.
I’m so glad he had you today for some comfort. :hug8:

I'm so sorry he didn't make it. He really didn't look good from the pic on the rocks. I don't think there was anything you could have done at that point, really, but it was kind of you to try to help him and at least he had some comfort before he passed.

Awww @Zara I'm so sorry - you tried to help the little cutie. I loved hearing him cheep, as did Fergus and Fiona. I sure wish he had been able to make it. Such a sad ending, but you are so good to have tried. :sorrow:

Aw, I’m sorry the little chick didn’t make it. :sorrow: Thank you for trying though, and at least he had a little living before he passed.
