My Indian ringneck has just started bitong me he is about almost a year old and when he sits on my shoulder he bites my face and if i turn my head to talk to him he bites my lip does anyone know why he has started doing this and what I can do HELP
Don't let him on your shoulder or near your face right now.
He could be starting puberty which is a tough time for a bird and their person. Biting can be a simple breakdown in communication. Biting could mean, "pay attention to me!" Or it could be "stay away from that scary spot/person/thing" or "I'm just fine where I'm at."
It can even displaced aggression where they went to bite something else but you are the closest thing he can reach.
Don't let him on your shoulder. Since he's exploring his world, including your shoulder, he's bound to be curious...so that means biting you. Like @sunnysmom said, shoulder time is an "honor"... earned by the bird.
IRNs are extremely intelligent, and their curiosity with their world is strong. Good luck with him...
