Merlin has lost part of a toe, about half of it. I discovered tonight when I did my weekly once over of her and weight check. It didn't bleed a whole lot, at least not enough that I noticed when I changed her cage papers, but I found blood on the papers from Sunday. She seems to be eating okay now, but I think she wasn't for the first day because she's down two grams. She doesn't seem particularly puffed up, and she's eating right now. I have her in her travel cage upstairs, but I will move her back to her cage if she doesn't seem to need it.

I'm pretty sure it was Solo, who got out of his cage on sunday and might have nipped her through the bars. I feel like a horrible parront that I didn't notice earlier!

Should I take her to the emergency vet now, or should I wait and make an appointment with the regular vet?

I'm no expert and you may get better advice (and by all means follow theirs) but since it is not bleeding and not looking infected I think it's safe to wait a day to go to your regular vet unless it will be days. You don't want an infection to start. :hug8:

If he is okay now, I would wait.
Does it look like he is fussing with it at all?
Do you have that Harrison's soother cream?
She's having a little trouble perching on perches, she's sticking to the cage bars, no on the soother cream and the only store that carries harrison's products is already closed. She tried to perch on a plastic dish a minute ago, and there are some smudges of blood there.

she's favouring the injured leg too...

She's untame so any handling will stress her, but there is a feather stuck to it, and who knows what else. Should I try to wash it?

I wouldn't touch it if you are taking Merlin to the vet.

I'd leave it be unless you've got some cayenne to put on it. If she's doing okay, I think it would be fine to wait to see your regular avian vet.

If it wouldn't stress her out too much I would wash it and put on some cayenne pepper paste. I would make up some paste with powdered cayenne and water.

thanks guys... I think we're might still take her in tonight, she's just not herself and I'm really worried. She's letting me handle her, which sounds good but it is not normal. She hasn't stepped up for me in over a year, she's never liked being around people.

Good luck at the vet.

The vet we saw tonight was the vet who saw Rain when we found her. Merlin got a pain shot and 14 days worth of baytril. She seems much calmer now.

Thanks for keeping me calmish guys. I'm just glad my baby is safe :)
