I’m new to forums. I have a question about my love bird. Has anyone seen something like this before started out as a regular molt I thought.

I would be consulting with an avian vet, if possible. If not, with an experienced parrot breeder/rehabilitator/rescuer.

I've not seen that kind of moult on a bird either, I would say it's worth finding a vet too

That looks like more than a normal molt to me. With that much feather loss and exposed/irritated skin, I’d try to get the bird seen by an avian vet as soon as you can.


There are a lot of possible causes — feather plucking, parasites, skin infection, nutritional or hormonal issues — and it’s really hard to separate them just from photos.


Until then I’d keep a close eye on whether the bird is actively pulling feathers, eating normally, and acting otherwise healthy. I’d also avoid putting any creams or sprays on the skin unless an avian vet recommends them.

Thanks just a few things.
I don't put anything on it just give him a shower.
He eats great.
He plays and what to come out and get treats.
I have been keeping an eye on it andmore new feathers are coming in.
I watch for plucking, I see no signs of that one or two small feathers are in his cage a day.

I was able to put my reading glasses on without scaring him and took a real close look.
The top of his head the pin feathers are getting longer feathers are starting to show up.
For the rest of his body, I see pin feathers coming in on other area's.

Does he get exposed to natural sunshine?
Moulting is aligned to sunshine and temperature - lack of sunshine can be problematic.

I realize that but I live in Nevada, we are still getting 103 degrees. To hot for him.but today he had long pin feathers.
They are about to come off. And I almost have it were he will let me help
I just have big fat fingers.

As others have said, i would suggest consulting a vet as this feather growth pattern does not look normal!
