Hello my name is Jen I rescued a white fronted Amazon that was dumped at my friends store about a year ago. In her cage was oatmeal cereal she was eating. She does not like to be handled and can be food aggressive but she is learning to trust me and will finally let me change her food now. She has been to the vet and I have a humidifier going for her bc her breathing is not very well bc the ppl that had her were heavy smokers. They did not even give us her name I named her Fred bc I thought she was a boy. Im still not sure if she’s girl or boy. I attached a before and after picture of her. I absolutely adore her.

Amazons can suck you in quick.

We rescued 2, originally to take them and find them a good home. I fell in love within the drive home and they weren't going anywhere.

Well done Jen for giving Fred a second chance at a good life. It's heart-warming to read of such things.

There is nothing quite like seeing a formerly neglected and mistreated birb begin to blossom under loving, good care. Best feeling in the world.

Welcome, Jen and Fred! Thank you for being there for Fred! It seems he will thrive in your care. Above is Cracker, a BFA I took in about a year and a half ago because his owner passed away. I didn't know the owner, but through a friend of a friend, Cracker came to me. Is Fred your only bird?

Thank you for the welcome, cracker is beautiful and Fred is actually my third bird I have two cocktails as well. But Fred is the only one that came from a not good home. She is coming around slowly. Still very shy and doesn't like to be handled but she will at least come over to me to take a treat and will also yell out this happy screech when I come home after work. Today she finally let me take her into my bathroom and give her a nice little shower and then for the first time ever I got to pet her head.

Did you get her in a towel?

I've NEVER managed that with Secret!

Sometimes - like when the temp is 40C (104F) which it is here now.
Water is easy to get them to enjoy.
Fred is looking much better and happier.
Just going to flood the aivary floors again - back soon.

I don't think Cracker was ever abused in any way, other than being grabbed with a towel... he's deathly afraid of towels (even wash cloth size). He doesn't fly. He won't let me touch him but my husband can give him scritches all day long.

My Oscar, a Quaker, on the other hand, came to me at 20 years old and, from the information we've gathered, was pretty harshly abused for most of those years. I've had him for just over 2 years. He has a ways to go, but he's like a completely different bird now than he was when I took him in.

She's SO cute! Welcome to the both of you! If you haven't had White Fronted Amazons before, you'll very quickly find out why they have a liiiiittle bit of a cult following! Eveybody who's had one LOOOOVES them! They're such hoots! It may take her some time to warm up, but congratulations!! You'll slowly see her personality emerge, and they're all such fun, social little guys who become such velco birds when they warm up! I do believe that you have a female. WFAs are one of the few sexually dimorphic parrot species in that the males will have bright red alula/"shoulder" feathers where the females will not. That's the main factor- though you'll tend to notice that the males will also have fuller red "masks", more blue, and many times more white on their head aswell. Here's some images of my male WFA, Lola for reference! (Pictures are newest to oldest, so disregard the beak overgrowth from when he was first rescued!)
