Hi... this is going to be a bit sad I'm afraid, I've joined because I'm thinking about rehoming my ~20yr old Senegal Winston and need advice. I've had him for most of his life but over the last couple of years he's become demanding, naughty, screamy and bitey, and I think it's because my lifestyle has changed and I can't give him the time and attention he needs any more :(

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for the problems with your Senegal. Whenever there is a change in personality it is always a good idea to get a vet check to rule out a medical condition causing the problem, before assuming it's behavioral. If he hasn't been to a vet, I would start there and then we can offer advise on how to perhaps make improvements if that's what you wish to do .

I'm sorry to hear . Sometimes it's for the best.

But we can try and offer support for keeping if you would like.

Screaming is frustrating, and can take time and lot of effort to resolve. I've had success with this.

Bites, I've screwed up trust before and thought I'd never earn it back . But starting over like I'd just brought the bird home, taking nothing for granted and earning back trust and bribes and close attention to body language and we got back to best buds.

That's not said to make you feel guilty, only to say we would try and support you and thst they way things are doesn't mean that's how it will always be.

Welcome!
Poicephalus seem to be a bit aloof but with time you can get back in their good graces. But if you have much less time now than before, maybe that’s what he’s unhappy about.
if you’ve had him fir so many years I’m sure you’re not making this decision lightly.
i wish you the best.

Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately I don't think I have what is required to resolve our problems. To add a bit more detail and context: for many years Winston has been used to having me around most of the time and has mostly been sweet and loving and not too naughty, but now I'm out of the house and going away a lot and I'm pretty sure it's this that has caused the changes in his behaviour. He is lonely and unsettled; he wants to be with me and have my attention all the time and he screams constantly when he's deprived of it, which is a problem for everyone around me. He also becomes aggressive towards things he perceives as receiving more attention than him, as well as me and other people when he feels frustrated. He needs more attention and stability than I can now provide, and I need more freedom and flexibility than his needs demand. I'm really struggling with the decision, I really don't want to say goodbye and I keep thinking I could do more, but I think it might be the best for all concerned

I understand what you’re talking about as my Meyers gets mad at objects I pay attention to. And then I get bit.
