I have had birds, mostly cockatiel/green cheek conure. I have had a cage that is shaped like a house kinda sitting around with nothing in it for around a year or two. I was going to get a new cockatiel for my one girl as a companion but I changed my mind. The cage had been meant to segregate the new bird from my gal. My cockatiel is named Lucy, she's a common grey and is 16.5 years old. She had buddies she'd lived with most of her life but they met the business end of my dog in a horrid accident.
When it comes to birds I like reading up as much information as I can get my hands on but this can be tricky and a lot of information you find contradicts the information from another source. I decided that the cage I'd bought and was sitting around would be a suitable place for some finches to at least start out. I have my eye on an upgrade already. I invested in a pair of Java Rice Finches. They're apparently 8 months old, which to me is a touch old but it doesn't make a HUGE difference. Finches are new to me so expect posts with questions/photos in the finch area.
It's great to find a place where I can ask those more experienced.
