Hi all fellow bird lovers
I'm new here and from wales uk.
Currently have 2 very beautiful kalkariki
Who have just become parents to two little chicks so far and another 5 to hatch.
One of the chicks has splayed legs and was after any advice you guys had to offer really ?
I'm hoping it can be treated as the chick is about 3 weeks old. The other chick is well and doesn't have same problem
Thankyou for having me

:welcome2: to the Avenue, Jodi! Hopefully someone more experienced will be able to advise. Have you taken the chick to an avian vet?

Hello from Yorkshire - that's in England :roflmao:

Might be a little to early for splinting, the legs grow fast at the start. Splinting is best done by the vet, unless you're friends with a reputable breeder.

Welcome to the Avenue Jodi :fairy2:

A vet will be able to help you with the legs. The sooner you take the bird in, the better. Good luck, I hope they are able to fix it ❤

Welcome to the forum!

@karen256 ? @PoukieBear ? (They might have suggestions on splayed legs. But yes, a vet is always a good idea.)

Welcome from Switzerland! Although originally from Yorkshire as well...we are everywhere :sneaky: sorry I don't have any advice for you, I'm not that knowledge on such things! Maybe try posting on Healthy Highway?

Splayed legs can easily be fixed when taken care of early.

there are different ways of dealing with splayed legs, and the easiest way is to tape them. I know Cute Little Birdies has an information page on how to properly tape legs, so do a quick search for that, and then take the baby to a vet.

Hi all
Thanks for all your messages
Unfortunately my little chick died and I'm unsure of what happened to it really
We think the hen killed it but cannot be sure so sad about it .
My beautiful kalkariki are called bonnie and clyde for the person who asked above and was hoping they would produce a blue chick as bonnie is green and clyde is yellow and red . However any that are healthy would be great
Once again thankyou all
Jodi
