Hello Everyone!!
I've been reading this forum from a couple of weeks now and have read so much helpful information. It's to the point that come here from answers before Googling it. This is a wonderful forum and I am happy to be a part of it.
I do not have any birds nor have I ever. I thought all birds were nothing loud, messy, human hating grouches who resented us for putting them in cages. I though all bird owner where sadistic people who did care about their animals happiness or wellbeing. My very limited experience with birds and proper bird care created a strong negative bias. Until I watched a youtube video of a parakeet name Disco. I couldn't stop watching bird videos and I learned some things that started to change my mind. Then I met a Green Cheek Conure. That little bird stole me heart. So full of personality!! That tiny creature has more emotions than I do! He has a good home and I still get to see him every now and then. He remembers me every time and it's like we are still best buddies. Since discovering I was wrong about birds and their people I have been reading as much as I can about proper bird ownership and different species.
I have come to the conclusion that an English Budgie is the first bird I would like to own. If that goes well and I love being a bird mom as much as I think I will, then in a couple years I will get a small parrot. The problem is I am having a very hard time finding a breeder. I live in Alabama and will not travel more than a state away. Does anyone know of any resources to help me find a English Budgie breeder near me? I have tried pet search engines like BirdBreeder.com with no luck. What about Southeast Exoctic Bird Show in Pensecola? Is that a good place to buy a baby bird?

Have you tried hookbills.com? Sometimes they have good breeders on there

Welcome! Are there any rescues near you? Sometimes English Budgies show up in rescues.

Adventure Birds of Bon Aqua is a bird store in the Nashville suburbs. They have English Budgies sometimes. I don't know if they ship or not or if that is close enough for you to drive. But you could give them a call to see

I looked into the rescues but none within distance had any English Budgies. I ended up going to the Exotic Bird Fair in Pensacola FL. I met a wonderful family that hand raises all their birds. They had one EB left when I got there and I bought her. Very tame and sweet, she is already a joy to have around.
Thank you everyone for you recommendations!
I'll post a picture soon of our new baby and the name of the breeder. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a well loved GC Conure, Cockatiel, or Budgie. All of their bird were hand fed on pellet. Most of adolescent birds already knew how to step up!

All birds are not like Disco. You may end up with one that doesn't like to talk at all. I agree that you should check rescues first. Before you consider read BEFORE you decide to get a Parrot | Avian Avenue Parrot Forum
What city in Alabama? If you search online USA Avian Breeders and choose Alabama theres a list. However, I still think a rescue would be the way to go. Sometimes you can even find them at the humane shelter in your area

Welcome to AA! I have no idea on English Parakeet breeders. I like many of us on here will agree that parrots "steel" your heart and so many people do not realize how much personality they are filled with. Good luck on your search.

Thank you for doing your research a head of time. :goodjob:

Unfortunately it is true that many lovely creatures were turned into "loud, messy, human hating grouches who resented us for putting them in cages" not because of "sadistic people who did care about their animals happiness or wellbeing". It happened manly because of ignorance and greed.

From the 90's until the start of the next decade, people in the bird industry decided that they could sell birds to anyone. The buyers only know what the seller told them so they were unprepared for the challenge and the bird was mad to suffer as a result.

Now-a-days, communities such as AA feel compelled to inform people of their challenges. Sure having a bird can be a wonderful experience, but it is also a heck of a lot of work. We must inform people that if they are not willing to commit the time and resources, then it will only be a nightmare for all especially the bird.

Don't want to end on a downer. You look like someone how is willing to invest the time and research in at the start.
:hello:

She is awesome!! I cannot believe how much of a joy she is. She loves to cuddle and neck scratches. Training is going very well, she already knew 'step up' so we are solidifying that and starting on recall.
Again, thank you everyone for the welcome and advice. I very happy with my choice of bird. She will live a life of luxury, no doubt!
She come from Valdosta, GA from a breeder whose small family business is called On A Wing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! They hand raise budgies, english budgies, cockatiels, green cheek conures, and sun conures.

She is gorgeous! Congratulations and welcome! Another breeder in Virginia whom I highly recommend is Sissy's bird colony in Virginia. She treats her babies like her own and that is where I got Bella from.
