Hello folks, hope this message finds you all in good health.
Just wanting to introduce my 'tiel- Leo and myself - Matt.

I joined for insight on the do's and dont's of owning a bird, as this is my first one.

I received him as a rescue-ish bird, I'm unsure of his 'breed' and age (if anyone could help me find out that would be greatly appreciated) he was in a tiny cage inside all the time with nothing to keep his mind busy and not getting enough attention as the owner was single, no kids and always working.

I have him in a cage outside which is exceptionally larger than his last one, there is 6 people in this household that see him everyday and whistle/sing to him all the time. He has also made a friend of a wild 'tiel that gets around and visits him each day.

I will be browsing and posting of various forums for tips and guidance, thanks for having me

The 'cage' he was in, compared to his kingdom he is now in.

He is so much happier, vocal and active.

I know his kingdom looks a little bare and can definitely do with more, but it's coming along nicely and he's loving it.

Yeah I am from South Australia on a farm, we have a few parrots and tiels that hang around, but one in particular comes and visits Leo everyday.

I'm not too sure it's an escapee, there is another white one that's hangs around aswell, it's kinda sad because we will be leaving the farm in a couple months and it seems they have a bond and my partner and i think it's unethical to 'trap' the wild one and take it with us.

I am not so sure it is wild. It is an odd colour for a wild one and it is visiting your guy daily- I have wild birds visit my place but none of them come every day... Just saying you might want to double check how many white wild tiels are about.

Yeah I'm not so sure either what breed it is, but we are about 6kms from town and surrounded by paddocks.
It may be visiting just simply because Leo is quite vocal.

I bet if you set another cage up next to your birds cage and left it open with food the white tiel would enter it and be quite happy in there. I really honestly doubt that bird was born in the wild- I obviously cant be certain but I have never seen (nor heard of) any tiels other than the "wild type" or greys in the wild.
