I am not new to parrots. For the first time since the 1980s,
I recently achieved a situation where it is possible to have one.
Two months ago, Arev, a Sun Conure joined the family. (Arev is
the Armenian word for sun.) I found Avian Ave while looking for
information on molting. Pleased to meet everyone.

I never got a bird during the 90s but I read many books written in the late 90s. Those books emphasized how much has changed in as far as how birds should be trained and handled. Practice emphasis letting your bird have chooses rather than making your bird comply with the owners will. Also before the 1992 import ban many birds in the US. and now the birds being sold were hand raised.

Be sure to read modern behaviorist such as Barbara Heidenreich and
others.
