My RB2 was clipped when I got him, and in past month he began getting his flight feathers in.

Today, around a hour ago he flew for the first time! It was from the ground to my shoulder... Which isn't the greatest considering we have a no shoulder rule but regardless I'm very excited that he's flying.

From his body language I can tell he's really insecure about flying and he freaked himself out a little.... He looked like he didn't even know he could do what he had just done lol. It was a stable enough flight that i do think he was fledged though.

I'm not sure if his original owner let him fly at all or if she clipped him right before we got him, so I don't know how much experience he has.

What sort of things can I do to get him comfortable with flying, and get him flying more ( and safely ) ? Any exercises?

I did some basic flight recall with my GCC, but she's flown her whole life and is very confident.

Anyway, not sure where to post this, so I hope here is alright ?

I don't know how to help really, but when she does fly be sure to really encourage and support it :)

Kamara wasn't allowed to fly (or leave her cage for that matter) in her previous home. I want to have several play areas in her room that she can fly freely to but she's still not great at flying (possibly due to her previous feather plucking or just inexperience)

Start with step up. Expand to a step up with beak grab. Step up with a hop. Step up with a hop and a flap.

If bird is hesitant at any stage, go back until bird is more confident to proceed.

Also, do the opposite. Teach bird to step off of you and onto something else. (i.e. soft bed) Slowly increased distance that bird is comfortable hopping/jumping off of you and onto other object.

Can help to build confidence in taking off and landing! :)
