Hi everyone,
I have been absent for awhile. I posted on rehome as I lost my wb caique after 22 years and I am devastated. I am looking for another male wb caique. I miss him terribly. I used to post on this forum and was asked to give an update. Most of my birds were found in bad condition on craigslist. I used to post about them on this forum.
Rocky, my female maroon belly conure, passed away at the age of 21.5. She had abdominal fluid in the abdomen. The vet aspirated it and she seemed to do well afterwards, but then had a stroke and passed away at the vet office. I had her for 21 years and miss her terribly.
Scout, my female nanday, was found in a small round cage, weak and with a badly broken wing ten years ago. She is doing well, given her age. She has elevated uric acid levels, but they seem to be holding steady and the vet said to just keep her happy. She is very old - maybe late 20’s or older. She was moved from her large EH cage to a small cage on the bar in the living area so I can keep an eye on her. Her cage door is always open and she seems very happy to run around the counter and hang out on top of the cage. She is a big snuggler, and will roll onto her side snuggled against my face at night while sucking on her toe.
Finn was a tiny plucked green cheek found malnourished in a cage smaller than my shoe, with a broken keel. The vet said he was very skinny and would not have lived much longer. He is doing great. Although he hated my caique, he clearly misses him. Their night cages were next to each other. Finn has grown back most of his feathers, but still plucks his chest. He used to groom Rocky when they were out. I am also open to adopting an older female conure for Finn to hang out with when he is out of the cage.
Felix is a nanday/sun conure or nanday/gold cap conure. He was living in a very small travel cage by the same person who owned Dash. He has the anti ganglioside antibody. He is doing great and has not been on meds for years. Unfortunately, he is very aggressive and I cannot handle him. He is a foster for Ginger Parrot Rescue, but I keep him here because he seems happy and he is no trouble. He doesn’t like to come out of his cage, but I leave the door open and put a rope perch in the doorway so he can feel like he is out.
Dash was another rescue nanday in poor condition. We actually tried to follow the owner after she was purchased to get the address to report to the police. I spoke to the police before hand and they said that was okay and if I had an address they would respond For animal abuse. Dash also had the antiganglioside antibody. She was very old, I will guess in the 30’s, and very skinny. She lived a couple more years and then she was having trouble breathing. I rushed her to the vet at midnight. He stabilized her and sent her home with me. She died in my hands a day later. I suspect it was congestive heart failure.
It is so hard to lose these birds. My babies Rock, Zeek and Dash are gone. I’m thankful Scout is doing well, although I can tell the vet doesnt think she has much longer given her age. If anyone hears of a male wb caique or older female gcc or maroon belly, let me know. Thank you.
