The ones in HD have plastic hangers-- very flimsy. The ones with metal chain....no idea what metal. So do I need to come up with my own or do safe heavy duty bird safe hanging pots exist?

I've seen some made of rope but I'm sure it's treated. You could make your own out of sisal....

Saroj ..

Just wondering, because I know you're extra careful with such things .. what type of hanging plants do you use in the bird areas? I could use a few ideas!!

I have a spider plant hanging in my room right now, the birds do chew it! Actually, I had to take it out for a bit because they almost killed it! I just let them chew on the leaves, not the blossoms, because I am unsure if those are safe. They seem to like the spider plant though!

If you are concerned that they may chew the macrame - you can also use the plastic pots - take out the skinny plastic hangers and replace with plastic chain - use a quick link to hook onto the hole in the edge of the pot and then another one to hook all three chains at the top

I love the macrame idea and thanks for the links Ashley!!
