Handling Canaries

Hi, I adopted two canaries. I would like to be able to handle them and be able to go near them without them being too stressed out. I made a 5 x7 feet cage for them. I had them for a month now. I bought a special carrier to take them with me when I go out for walks with my dogs. I need to be able to put them inside but when I go near them they fly to the other side. I want to be able to handle them and cut nails.

That is difficult as most canaries do not enjoy being touched. I would assume that it is possible with a good amount of time and effort on your part though.

Canaries aren't known to be very hands on as already mentioned. I guess you could try target training with them to teach them to go into a carrier etc.

Canaries don't really enjoy being taken on walks the way some parrots do. It's quite stressful for them. They aren't really hands-on birds, but they can get comfortable enough with you to perch on your finger/shoulder/head, or take food from your hand. They also can learn to chirp back when whistled/sung to.
