Green Cheek blood draw?

When your green cheek is at the vet, do they draw blood? My vet has never wanted to at his annual, but now that he's sick, I definitely want to for diagnostic purposes. However, I'm anxious about it with him never having had a blood draw.

Also, do your vets sedate for blood draws? The two avian vets I've been to have done this differently (with baba the amazon, who has had blood tests). The one I saw first with baba did not let me come to the back where they brought him, but apparently the first time he was okay and the second time he freaked out way too much, so we had to reschedule to have it done sedated. The second vet said that they always sedate them. I was allowed to be in the room when it was done, which put me at ease. She said that she has had many more deaths drawing blood on awake birds than she has had when birds were sedated. She also explained that the sedation they were using now was much lower risk than what has been used in years past. I had a much better experience with the second vet, but percy's (gcc) appointment is with the first vet as they are much closer to us and could get us in faster. Also, the second vet has only ever seen baba, the first vet is percy's normal vet.

Can you tell by this post that I'm anxious?,

Rupert has blood drawn every time - we have not had any problems thus far, and no sedation needed.

Neither Nala nor Zazu ever needed sedation for their blood draws. My clinic doesn't require sedation,we only offer it if the patient is stressing out to much which thankfully is rare.

Prayers up. I make hubby go with us to the vet because I'm anxious and the parrots pick up on our feelings. If I'm super bad, I step out of room and leave hubby with Secret. She's fine with him in there.

Mine will not draw blood unless we are chasing a problem due to conure bleeding syndrome. No sedation except for julip.

We don't sedate Patches, but he's extremely anxious at the vet, so we give him a little bit of gabapentin (anti-anxiety med) each time before we go so he's calm while they are drawing it.

At his first visit with his current vet, Buddy had blood drawn with no sedation. Not sure if it will be a regular thing — depends what they recommend at his next visit. The vet is very experienced and despite his vocal protests, Buddy behaves well. He had no issues afterwards :)

Wishing you luck with Percy.
