Goodbye Ducky...

Ducky did what caged birds do...found a way to escape from his outdoor cage...

He stayed around a bit but the temptations and the big open space were too great to resist.

I informed the bird man but he sadly informed me that captured canaries don't have a good survival rate out in the wild.

I don't want another bird...this is too heartbreaking.

I hope that someone finds him and all the training put into him, he gets a good re-homed verses the odds.

I’m sorry that happened but I wouldn’t give up on tying to find him. Lost canaries turn up all of the time at my local animal shelter.

Yes, alert all vets, pet stores, shelters, rescues & groomers, regardless of their target species.

I've informed the bird guy, and my landlord.

I went into the open field one last time in case he was injured and hiding on the ground. I called but no squeaks back...

I didn't have him so long and I'm more devastated than I thought I would be.

So I washed his cage n stuff... putting it all away...the odds aren't in my favour. There are a lot of bigger birds around...

I've been walking around w canary sounds from my phone but no response...

People keep telling me he might come back. Not that fortunate...

My mind was playing games as I thought I heard him so I went outside at 3 am looking for him...

I keep telling myself he's gone for good but all day I play canary sounds .. catch myself look up into the trees...

This is too painful. He was better than Richard Parker's departure with Pi but he still left me

Did you put his cage outside with the door open and a bunch of food inside?

When Lurch escaped he hunkered down in a tall fir tree and stayed quiet. We got under the tree we thought he was in and I started calling him the next morning. It was quiet for like 10 minutes then just as I thinking he flew away he answered me. He stayed in in that tree for 3 days and finally got scared away by crows. We were allowed on the roof under his tree but he refused to fly down to us because he didn't know how and was scared to.
They wake up in the morning eventually and if they hear you they will respond.

I don't hear back...this is day two and I hear the regular am birds, Cardinals, wrens ...

I understand that sometimes it's hard to say the right thing to someone grieving or even put your foot in mouth at times...but when it comes from the heart, hurts but understandable....

Every one is like it's okay you can get another one... I don't want another one.

Had a good ol thunder storm this afternoon. Other birds have come for the seeds...I don't even hear his sounds...I lost Ducky
