Getting an African Grey

Hello all,
Hope you all are doing good. I am getting my 2nd bird now. My 1st bird is a Sun Conure. He is 3 years old very active and very loud at times. I have a doubt and hope to get some insight here. As people say African greys are very good at mimicking, is it possible that my grey will learn to scream like my conure since they will be in the same room?

I'm not completely sure if your African grey will mimic your conure. Birds are naturally loud and some have been known to imitate very annoying noises. Any time you get a bird you should expect the possibility of having a super loud bird. My budgie used to imitate my clock that made bird noises, it needs batteries so he stopped.

I couldn't say.
But definitely reward and make over any talking or whistling or any vocals you like. And ignore completely the ones you don't like.

When my parrots want to have a happy scream session I start talking softly with the phrases they know and like to say. They often switchover to talking instead. Then I bragging on em and repeating back the phrases.

I will take a thousand loud hellos over screeching any day ;)

Yes its a possibility ...I try to make talking and whistling with other noises treatable and screaming not so much ... Are you getting a baby ? If so try to teach other noises and treat those without reacting to loud screaming ..my grey just talks and whistles instead of mimicking my other birds loud noises ;)

Getting an African Grey... 1st bird is a Sun Conure ... they will be in the same room
It's not what you asked, but please ensure that room has excellent cleanliness, ventilation and filtration to avoid the Grey's dust causing respiratory issues with your Sun.

I need help. I got my African grey 2 days back. Noticed a bulge on his throat. Not sure it is normal or not. Attaching the picture. If you know anything about this please let me know what it is?

Hello handsome.
Noticed a bulge on his throat.
Is it always like that, or only after he eats? It's normal for their crop to fill as they eat and then gradually empty.

Has he had an initial wellness check with your avian veterinarian to establish a health baseline and that relationship?

I'd suggest that vet trip for any new bird, not to cause worry.

Yes it is like that almost every time I noticed. Here in India we don't have specialised Avian vets and all the vets here only know about dogs, cats, cows etc. It gets really difficult for us when our bird is sick. All the vets here say that they see birds also but when you visit them they have no equipments to check a bird and they say they have never treated a bird. How bad is that :(
Here we don't even get medicines for birds. The vets will prescribe Dog medicines and ask us to give it in minimum amount to our sick bird. Really pathetic it is :(

Check what the "bump" looks like first thing in the morning. Tonight (at sleep time) you can take all food out of the cage so he cannot eat till you see him in the morning and the morning should show you no bump. .
It should not be there early in the morning when he rises and is ready for Breakfast, it should almost be a very slight indent in the morning if you feel it.

At 4 months, are you still hand-feeding regularly (if so, how much and how frequently?), or is he eating on his own?

Understood. Do you have any knowledgeable breeders that you could contact if you find his crop isn't emptying?

He is eating on his own. Already on self feed. As of now I don't know about any such breeder. Will try to find out.
