I told my husband the other night that we just HAVE to move somewhere warmer so I can have more Macaws! We are set to inherit 80 acres, which I could make a nice aviary on lol, but its still in Kansas:mad:

Well played, Ginger.

Let's hear it for any first time bird owners that went the macaw route. Any other crazy people out there or am I all alone?

I know what you mean when I first decided to get Lucy everyone was saying it is a horrible idea. A macaw shouldn't be your first bird. And I just kind of ignored them and am I glad I did I don't know what I would do with out Lucy she is my feathered baby! Looking back on it and after learning everything know now I wouldn't recommend a large macaw to many people as their first bird. They are quite the challenge but worth every ounce of it!:loveshower:

I went down the Grey route as a lot of you already know! A very good route to go I might add.
Then a Timneh found he needed me to.
Then I became rash and rushed to the help of a hybrid Macaw and a blue fronted Amazon.
To say it was not tough in the beginning would be putting it mildly, but now things are on the up!
I would not have missed this journey for the world and Chaz is now the apple of my eye as is Jay, Leroy, scooby and Rambo!
so sorry, love them all!:hug8:

Don't be sorry! :) That's like someone asking you to rank your children. There are several species I'd like to own. I don't think I'd double-up, except with maybe aviary birds because there are so many personalities in the different species that I'm interested in.

Tiki was over a year of planning in the making. So my "crazy" decision was not rash at all. I don't have impulse to "blame." hehe. However, a handfed baby bird is far from the challenge others have taken up. I would consider adopting some day, but I'm far from able for now.

Lucy wasn't an impulse either but I didnt put quite as much time into the thinking as you did. I would love to adopt as well. I saw what I think was Lucy's clutch mate on CL and it was the biggest temptation yet for me. I just know I dont have the time or money for another macaw right now. It just broke my heart that there is a good chance he will be jumping from house to house now:(
