Spearmint's been going through a lot of weird habits lately, and now he's discovered his beak can tear through the bricks. He flies up to the top of the wall, near the roof (it's the highest room in my house, i'd need a ladder to reach the top) and he will sit and chew off pieces of brick, and eat little chunks.
Of course, that's not good for him, so I haven't gone in there too much. What should I do about this? I'm out of ideas

Your bird.

Crackhead.

I love him.

But honestly I don't know what else you can do other than stay away from that room. What sorts of chewing toys does he have?

I would probably try and put up a curtain or even cardboard and see if you can deter him. Or get him his own brick and put it on, in, or near his cage to play with

He's definitely something.. :cautious:
He's got loads of chewing toys! Over 20. Different materials each.
I do try stay away from the room, but issue is most rooms in my house don't have doors. And this room is his favourite. Large windows, loads of space to fly.

The room's too big and tall to put anything up, and he climbs curtains and chews carboard.
Would he not get an impaction from eating the brick? Would 'Flagstone' be a safer option?

Is actually eating it? Obviously if he is, then no, don't do it.

Yes the cardboard would get chewed. It would have to be replaced. I have to do the same for my ceiling beams.

Are you sure he is eating it? Burt loves climbing up the bricks high enough that I cant get him and chewing chunks out of them, he crushes the bits and drops them all so nothing is actually ingested.

I'm not sure if he's crushing some pieces in his beak, or if he's eating it. He'll eat almost anything if it's not hanging in his cage, so wouldn't be suprised.

I'll go get some cardboard on the weekend, thanks for the suggestion :)

He might be doing this, but i'm not sure. I'll have a closer look next time but it's hard as he will go up to the very top of the room.
