Hi everyone,

My 6 year old GCC has recently become attached to my partner and gets extremely hormonal, but only when she's around.

He has a history of hormonal issues, so I have already tailored his environment and diet accordingly.
For many years I was his 'favourite person', however, this has now switched to my partner.
When it is just Koby (GCC) and I, he is normal with me and wants to spend time with me etc., however, when my partner comes over, he only pays attention to her and is aggressive towards me.

Just wondering if you guys have any tips and/or experience with this / advice
I've read a lot in the past about one-person birds, and know this can be a conure trait, but would be great to get any ideas on how to get him to be nice to both of us.

Any advice would be much appreciated! :piedlovie:

(Also, it isn't possible to socialise him more at the moment because of COVID)

I’m sure it isn’t what you want to hear, but in my experience it isn’t always possible to convince a bird to love someone else when their preferred person is present, and as you can see firsthand sometimes a bird will switch up their favorite human.

I've had my GCC for 10 years. I learned over time that he would periodically switch between us.

When he was a young bird, he bonded to me, and when he matured sexually, saw me as a mate. So my partner was Public Enemy #1, and he would literally dive bomb him. However, eventually he realized that I was never going to fulfill the role of being his mate. He started resenting me, and made friends with my partner again. And I became the bad guy.

Even once the hormones subsided a little, he has always preferred one of us more than the other. He just rotates his favorite every couple of years. So he's a one-person bird that switches up who his person is.

Just my story - I know every bird is different.

Thank you for your reply - that sounds very similar to my experience.

How did you get his hormones to subside? I've tried everything google and the vet have recommended other than implants/injections :(

It wouldn't be so bad if he just had a preference for one of us, but he's actively angry and bitey towards me whenever my partner is around. Any tips?:piedlovie:

This happened with my GCC too. She was my bird for over a year and a half and then all of a sudden one day became attached to my ex girlfriend. That was it. She started biting and lunging at me all the time but was sweet as anything with my ex. Birds are just weird!

I don’t think there isn’t any hope though! Birds can flip flop all the time
