Hi
My GCC broke her bottom beak in a flying accident Monday evening. She ran into a door during her zoomies while I was prepping a big batch of chop. She lost most of the bottom beak. The vet did her surgery on Tuesday morning and she has been recovering since.
One big challenge she has is not climbing. She wants to climb, she is otherwise physically able to climb but the vet wants her resting the beak. She also wants to fly, which is another no at the moment. Today she seemed more frustrated about the restrictions than she has do far. Her meds were making her sleepy but that effect seems to have worn off a bit.
Tonight she was also a bit more resistant to taking her meds than she has been as far as accepting the syringe. I would like to nip this in the bud since she has another 6 days left for meds and to see what the vet says about returning to more normal activity. Any tips on getting the meds going? She is still on a mush/liquidy diet.

Hi , welcome to our group!
So sorry to hear this gorgeous birdie had an accident! Great job in getting vet care right away !
I would put the meds in the baby bird formula and give slow st beak tip . Or I have had luck in taking the tiniest bread crump to soak up the meds and offering, or add a dot of peanut butter to the bread crumbs to encourage yummy eating..make sure no artificial sweetener in peanut butter. Sometimes worth getting it st health food store

I'm sorry to hear about her accident! She's beautiful!
I find that really well cooked sweet potatoes are a good way to get things into them. Maybe you could hide the meds in some? If they're too thick you could water them down a bit. Mashed bananas work well too, also watered down.
