A few pics of these guys. They really are quite amazing birds and whilst the beak looks intimidating it's nowhere near as effective in causing damage as their cousins beaks. These guys aren't tame, get too close and they let everyone know about it but it's all bluff. mind you they haven't bred yet so I'll see what they're like with babes in the nest as to how much bluff is going on. Fred has done a great job of over preening Martha's head so she's a little bald.

Getting defensive over the nest box. We had to take the lid off because lard bum Martha was too fat to get through the log entrance. This is a box that was made for amazons and greys.

Thankfully the wild ones don't. We have a couple of pairs of galahs who are regular visitors, that's enough additional noise without the local short billed flock dropping in. Fred and Martha aren't too bad. They only really go into full scream when something upsets them, like me getting too close.

I actually don't know their age. They were bought from a bird dealer friend who hadn't thought to ask. They have bred before but he didn't bother to ask the age from the original owner.

Do your neighbors think it's odd to be keeping "the pests". lol

Things are fairly private here so I don't think any of the neighbours really know what I've got. Not such a bad thing. Kirri (GSC2) is really good with the amount of screaming she does. Only a few times a week does she go into a major session and it's one of those I'm loud and proud and happy to alive things. Only lasts about 5 minutes or so. Mostly she barks and says hello. The long bills beep rather then scream. It's quite odd.

I think yours are the first Long Bills on the Causeway. They have a rep for being amazing companion birds. They are relatively rare here in the states.

I look forward to more pictures and stories about them.
