i will be using current tense because it is too hard to accept this is real right now.
honey hatched on June 13th 2017 and is a green cheek conure with the suncheek mutation. i bought her when she was 7 months old (she was still not named!) and named her honey. she lived with me until October 2018, and i ended up giving her to a close friend who really really wanted a bird, due to mental health issues at the time. we had an agreement that if i thought the care was improper or if she could no longer care for honey, i would get the little birdie back. i never had to do that.
this morning, my friend woke me up frantically calling about how honey was acting, and that she was urinating all over herself and could barely walk . this scared me because i had never heard anything like it, and i told them to take her to an exotic vet near them. they quickly did, but the bird specialist wasn't in for a few more hours. they were on their way to an avian specialist when honey took her last big stretch and passed away in my friends arms... at the second vet, the concluded she suffered multiple seizures for a reason currently unknown.
when they went back home, they were horrified to see their other bird, Tom (12 year old male pineapple gcc) acting very weak. they rushed him to the vet, but he was only dehydrated. he is currently being kept in a plastic tub with shallow food and water dishes, and he has been seen eating.
please keep my friend, Tom, and her family in your prayers.
