When you have birds that thoroughly enjoy being floor chickens (like cockatiels), what do y’all do for them?

I have a little rectangle of fake grass that I use for a foraging mat, but what else do y’all do?

Frankie my macaw is on the floor playing with his toy and has a toy hut. Whatever he wants to play with, he just goes in and gets it.
We play ball together, fetch, catch, he goes behind his hut for peekaboo.
He is pretty much independent, unlike Miss Dolly.
After I saw you had got that grass mat, I thought it would be a fun thing for Frankie, so I bought one too.
Well, he wanted nothing to do with it, so I rolled it back up and it's in it's box in my storage cupboard. Lol

I have little trays from the dollar store and will put food then scatter old toy bits all over it.

I also found hamster bedding that is 100% pine and have used that mixed with food in trays.

I also don't clean up food they scatter on the floor until it's bedtime and they think they find the most amazing prizes when they're on walkabout

What about seagrass mat like they use for rabbits? Bebe has one in his cage that he loves to shred. You can attached things to it like busy boxes.

You can grow some grass and spread seeds for them to collect and have a little bird bath with maybe a hidden sprayer. Just make sure they are not exposed to any wires by covering the wires with metal tubes or plastic if they dont have powerful beaks. I only have macaws now and they mostly like it high up with big plants to ruin.

My birbs are also floor cruisers. Sometimes I sprinkle treats around a beach towel for them to search. Other times I place blueberries around, there is no hard set rule.

Generally I just let them do as they want and use the out most care with my steps. They are hilarious! The other day I was laying on my stomach reading on the floor and they climbed/flew to me and I had a row of parrots on my bum! :roflmao::wacky:

I also use a lap tray and fill it with toys and throw in some seeds for Bailey to find. Sometimes it’s on the end table, but lately he has been on the floor lots so I put it on the floor next to his tunnel so he can play if he wants…

the tunnel is plastic so no metal there to chew on. Excuse the mess, I’m on holidays and systematically going room to room, but there is always a ‘mess’ in the living room! image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Yes he does, he likes dark areas, so this encourages him to stay away from under the couch. We put a strip of towel inside so he has purchase for his feet. The tunnel is a section of a/c tubing. The inside of it is black so he likes to go in there and beat his bell around, or feed his bottle cap.:wtf:

My bird loves the foraging flats. You can get them here or on Etsy.
