I want to get a flat perch for my yellow nape as he has started to fall off his perch during the night. I was wondering if anybody has one in their cage and what was it made of. I have been researching online and was surprised in the composition of the products on the market: stone, plain sanded down wood, and sand covered. Stone won't work for me as it would be too cold during the winter. Heck I don't like walking on my kitchen tile during the winter so that is out. Pollys Pet Products has a Lazy Loft Perch which is sanded, which looks good but wondering if it's too hard on the bird's feet for 8-12 hours. It would be great for keeping nails and beaks in check. Would plain wood sanded down be too slick? I would like to know what your opinions are on flat perches.
