Just baked my first ever birdie bread and it came out great!

I used:
  • 2c ground pellets
  • 1tsp aluminum free baking powder
  • 1tsp chili powder
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Cinnamon
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 jars sweet potato baby food
  • ½ can black beans
  • ¼c ish seed mix
Portion into mini muffin pans. Bake at 350 for 15-20min.

Reviews are positive (sorry for the bad pic lol):

Sounds fantastic! What kind of pellets did you use?

TOPS. He had no interest when I offered them plain, even when I ate one in front of him (the things we do for love...) He ate a little when I crumbled them up and mixed them with a little water and plain yogurt, but not enough to provide sufficient calories. His keel is pretty sharp- I'm worried he's malnourished.

I'm doing my best to eat with him as much as possible to show him it's safe. Vet visit scheduled in 10 days!

You know, beans is something I rarely add to Duckie's chop and breads. I'll have to remind myself to do that next time!

Merlin continues to be a bean aficionado. Lentils are a staple, either sprouted or cooked with oat groats, and he likes the mixed beans sold for soup as well. Luckily, so do I!

Whole cooked beans usually earn an eye-pin of appreciation, but I’ll also purée them with things he’s not super keen on, like dark leafy greens.

Protein doesn’t seem to induce as much hormonal behavior as fat and carbohydrates- this tracks with Pamela Clark’s observations of her greys. Beans are nice because they’re a protein AND a carbohydrate, so he eats them readily but doesn’t get super testy. He’s managed to put some weight on, too, without acting hormonal.

They truly are magical
