I have taken a break from all social media. I still am 80% off line. I pay my bills and I feel this place is safe. I have to say it has help. Even my flock has notice.
And thats why I am posting this.
Sit back grab a tasty beverage and prepare yourself its going to be a bumpy ride.
Every day after I left. I was focused on me and my flock. I started to work on each flock member on more of bonding and getting close. No tricks, just plan old love and trust.
Of course I still had to supply the treats.
I am going to go over what has happen to each of my boys.
Let's start with Cash.
Cash was edge not want to even be touch.
I worked on him where I could give him a scratch. Now when he's on the perch by the door. All I have to do is hold my hand in a cup shape and he will come right under it and snuggle in so I can rub his head with my thumb.
Also Cash would not eat a peice of almond. He just wanted millet.
I racked my brain thinking of what I could do.
I decided to put a peice of almond between the bars, and see what happens. That little cinnamon conure walked right up to it grabbed it ate it. I did it a few more times, then I held it out to him with my fingers, walked up ate it. He is now on almonds and hulled sunflower seeds as treats.
Something as little as that. To let him try it on his own, and all is right with the world.
Tango is next. He liked stepping up on my left hand only. But today just like with Cash, everything seamed just right. I had him on my left hand, held my right hand up with a treat and he came over on to my right hand.
Now he will transfer from one hand to the other.
So I feel I'm on a roll why stop.
Went over to Yukon.
He is my cockatiel, when I give him a treat I have to make it small because he just socks it down. Since cockatiels don't eat with their feet and he doesn't believe in trying to break it up with his beak. I make sure its small enough for him to eat.
Yukon steps up nice, he wants cuddling, just don't touch his feet.
Well this i was on a roll, I started working on having him get use to my thumb on his foot. I put it on just one talon, giving him some lovin. I worked my way to his whole front foot. I use no pressure, just one foot. He was relaxed and just let me keep my thumb there. You may ask me why a thumb on a foot. So I can help him balance on my finger, and to build the trust so he knows I will not hurt him. I can touch a variable area, and he can trust me.
Pegasus my indain ringneck.
After this day happened I had a warm fuzzy feeling. MEN DON'T CRY.
I have had Pegasus now for 3 month. He will stepup on my finger. I can't leave the cage area. He likes to back off my finger and be in the cage. I have never tried to touch him give him scratches, nothing.
I started to touch the foot with my thumb and he let me.
I came up with an idea to give him a treat through the cage wires and as he reached for the treat I would touch his beak. Just a touch. The next day I felt the way he was acting, I would try with out anything between us. I had him come over he grabbed the treat I touched his beak. No reaction to that at all. Did that a few times, it got to a point that, when I would give him the treat he would wait just a second for me to touch his beak.
Now he started something that I thought was very telling. He has never do this. The only time he would go down to my hand he is stepped on is to bite that hand. He had his treat in his mouth he bent down towards my hand he was on, hepushed his beak against my hand to strengthen out his treat. The point being he kept on doing it like he was meaning to. So I gave him a big treat and stopped the lesson for the day. The next day he started to touch my finger with his beak beak before he back away, and still would go down and push his treat against my hand.
So I decided one time one time only. No matter what happens as I touched his beak as I gave him a treat I just touched the top of his head.
He didn't jump away, he walked away but no real reaction. I did it after 3 months I touched his head.
But I'm calm, am relax. I will take it slow no getting over excited. The next morning I put my hand up for a stepup and he growls at me and tried to bite me. Back to normal.
That feeling i had with all my flock doing so well, it was as if they were letting me know everything is going to be alright.
