So people recommended I get a Milk Thistle supplement to help with my Parakeets Fatty Liver Disease. Thankfully, I finally got it.

That said, I have a few questions

Which water dish should I use for their water, and more importantly how many drops would you recommend I put in? Today I used dish #1, and only used 1 drop for safety precautions

2. How many days or weeks should I continue using this for? Only one of them has the fatty liver disease, but they drink from the same water dish

3. Is it safe to put it in their food? Or should I not do it? If I can, how many drops recommended?

For a Parakeet I don't really know, but I figured out the dosage for my 1,100 gm macaw by reading the label and translating the human dosage to the weight of my macaw. One thing about MT is that it is not toxic in any way and you cannot overdose, so go for it, put a much as you would like in the water. If your bird has fatty liver disease it is very important that she gets the support of MT.

You did not say which MT product you have, nor the MT/mg concentration, so we cannot tell you how much without the concentration.

If your bird has fatty liver disease, it will be a lifetime thing for that bird. But don't worry about your other bird MILK THISTLE cannot be overdosed and will not harm your other

I put two drops in my budgies water in the daytime. The label on my bottle says it can be given by beak in a syringe. That method may be better for your birds. Read the label carefully or call the manufacture to find out how long to give. Most vets are not wise in herbal medicine.

It looks like the dosage is given in the label. I repeat - MT is not toxic and you cannot overdose with it. It is always better to give a bird medications by syringe, but I have never dealt with budgies. The important thing is that your budgie with fatty liver disease get the medication.

There should be directions for dosing on the bottle. You could probably even call or email Avitech and get more info from them.

That is the same kind I am giving. Directions are easy to understand on the label. My vet. Had to show me how to give meds to a budget in a syringe. It is not east but is the best way. I put the herbal mix in the water because they are getting amputation by beak.

That type you follow the directions on the bottle

1 drop per ounce of water or soft food, or one drop directly into the mouth.

For Gizmo (my Hahns) I used the water method

I agree, it's 1 drop per 1 oz of water, changed twice a day. Both budgies can drink from this water without issues. It may be something that is required for the rest of the sick bird's life, if the liver cannot repair itself. It doesn't matter what water dish you use, although if they share a cage, it may be easier to use one water dish, unless you don't mind cleaning both dishes twice a day and adding in fresh water and milk thistle.
