Female of breeding pair won’t sit on eggs

My cockatiels began to lay their second clutch of eggs ever. Last time, they incubated the eggs well and never got off. This time, the male still incubates the eggs about half the time , but the female only does for a few hours after laying an egg. Because of this, for about a third of the day the eggs are not being sat on. How do I get her to incubate like she did last year?

Just updating, as of today she seems to actually begin sitting on the eggs. All I did was replace the old nesting material that was a little dirty with some fresh material. No clue if that was why or if it was some other reason but now she’s incubating the eggs.

Eggs can be left unincubated for up to a week. Some females prefer to begin incubating after she is done laying eggs. Good luck!

Thank you! I was worried that my birds were just really bad parents. I’ll watch and see if she lays anymore. Thanks!
